Barcelona - El Prat

What a strange day. We are stuck in El Prat Airport in Barcelona. The police are not letting anyone leave. Small lines of police are moving quickly about the lounge with riot gear and some serious looking weapons. The arrivals lounge is not designed for people to be waiting; people are lying about or standing at the doors. No messages over the intercom, but the staff at the info-booth tell us: no bus, no metro, no cars, no way out. So we just wait.

A group of people is stuck inside a glass enclosure; the police are also not letting them in.

Earlier today, a group of Catalan leaders was sentenced by the Spanish Supreme Court, and the people of Barcelona are having their say. Good on them. So we are stuck. And the airport is filling up.

The dam finally breaks about 11PM (we arrived at 5:30-ish). The police abandon their posts; they just walk away. There are no announcements or direction, and so (in a way) there is no drama. We just go out the door, fighting the crowd to the Metro, and get on the train.
