We are back in London (pop 8.67 million in 2022) after more than four decades. Our temporary home base is the district of Bermondsey. The forty-year old memories include classical buildings, cobblestone streets, brick housing blocks. When we exit the London Bridge train station, our first sight is The Shard (Renzo Piano, 2013), easily the tallest building in the skyline. It is attended by a few shorter, shiny towers and a cadre of bright red cranes.
Lately it's been grey and rainy in Lisbon, in London it's chilly but brilliantly sunny – so many assumptions blown.
